Egna
Egna (German Neumarkt) is the most important economic and administrative center of “Bassa Atesina”, the southernmost South Tyrol region. This town is bound to Garibaldi, as Camillo Zancani, a “Red Shirt” who took part into the expedition from Genoa to Sicily, was born in Egna. Andreas Hofer is somehow bound to Egna, as he spent a night in prison here before being taken to Mantua. Roman history fans can visit an ancient Roman site in Egna, called “Mansio Endidae”, very well preserved nowadays as well. It’s also possible to reach the Monte Corno Natural Park very easily; moreover, a very popular mountain bike track goes from the village of Pochi till Monte Corno, passing by Fontanefredde. This itinerary is suitable for very well-trained mountain bike fans.
